Your 'Christmas in July' 3-Step Reset

Jul 07, 2026

As summer shines bright, it's the perfect time to pause, reflect, and realign....and...what if we borrowed a little of the joy and hope of Christmas to help us do just that?!

Christmas reminds us of God's greatest gift and fresh hope, inviting us to pay attention, remember what matters most, and refocus on Him.

That's why we love the idea of a little "Christmas in July."

Not because we're putting up a tree or singing carols in the middle of summer, but because this season offers something many of us need: an opportunity to pause, unwrap our plans again, and take the next faithful step.

Maybe you started the year with a clear vision for your finances. You wanted to save more, give more, pay off debt, communicate better about money, or simply be more intentional with what God has entrusted to you. Then life happened:  unexpected expenses showed up, work became busier than expected, family needs changed, or good intentions slowly gave way to urgent priorities.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone and the good news is this: you don't have to wait until next January to begin again.

Plans Have a Way of Changing

There's an old saying: "Everyone has a plan until something happens.”  A plan is only a starting point. Once life begins unfolding, adjustments become necessary.

Faithful financial stewardship isn't about following a perfect plan without interruption. It's about staying responsive, adaptable, and willing to refocus when circumstances change. A detour doesn't mean you've failed, it simply means it's time to pause and ask a few honest questions.

Step 1: Reflect on Where You've Been

Before you decide where you're headed next, spend a few moments looking back.

  • What has gone well this year, experiencing progress?
  • Where have you struggled?

Reflection is about wisdom. Often, the lessons we need most are hidden inside the experiences we've already lived. A mistake becomes valuable when it teaches us something.  A success becomes more valuable when we understand why it worked. God rarely wastes a season, and He doesn't waste our reflections either.

Step 2: Refocus on What Matters Most

When life gets busy, it's easy to become consumed by the urgent and lose sight of what's truly important. This is why a mid-year reset can be so powerful.

Pause and ask yourself:

  • What do I want my financial life to look like by the end of this year?
  • What kind of steward do I want to become?
  • Are my daily choices aligned with what matters most?

Sometimes we don't need entirely new goals, we simply need to remember why the original goals mattered in the first place. A clear vision has a way of drawing us back toward what is truly important.

Step 3: Realign and Take the Next Faithful Step

Often, people give up on goals because they think they've fallen too far behind, but faithful progress has never been about perfection. It's about taking the next right step.

Maybe your next step is revisiting your budget, or having a long-overdue conversation with your spouse, or restarting your savings plan or making one extra payment toward debt. Maybe it's simply praying and asking God for fresh wisdom and direction.

Small steps, taken faithfully, have a way of creating meaningful change over time. The goal isn't to catch up overnight, it's to reset and move forward again.

The Gift of Beginning Again

One of the beautiful truths of our faith is that God is always in the business of renewal. His mercies are new every morning. That's why a little Christmas in July can be such a gift.

It's a reminder of how God's grace meets us right here in the middle of the year, in the middle of our unfinished goals, and even in our 'messy' middle.

There's still time this year to move toward the goals, priorities, and faithful financial life God may be calling you into. So this summer, give yourself an early Christmas gift.

Pause. Reflect. Refocus.

And perhaps your best financial decision today isn't creating a brand-new plan. It's simply unwrapping the gift of the one you already have, dusting it off, and taking the next faithful step!

Merry Christmas! :)
